SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A bridge in Franklin County has been named to honor a soldier who was killed in action nearly 50 years ago.
The bridge on Route 533 over Muddy Run in Southampton Township was dedicated Wednesday as the Private First Class Dana Edward Diehl Memorial Bridge.
More than 70 of Diehl’s classmates attended the dedication ceremony.
Diehl, a Shippensburg native, was a medical specialist with the 25th Infantry Division, 3rd Squadron, 4th Calvary, Headquarters Troop.
He died in South Vietnam on Dec. 10, 1968, when a vehicle in which he was riding was struck by an explosive device.
